  7.     GORBY, THE NEW AGE GURU? Fans of harmonic convergences and
  8. the like have been noting Mikhail Gorbachev's frequent use of
  9. phrases associated with the new age movement, that mystical,
  10. universalist philosophy that preaches, as the Soviet President
  11. does, of the need for "a new world order." As he said in
  12. California: "All mankind is entering a new age, and world
  13. trends are beginning to obey new laws and logic." More
  14. strikingly, he held a private meeting in Canada earlier in the
  15. week with one of the leading gurus of the new age movement,
  16. Sri Chinmoy, who read him a "spiritual song" and gave him a
  17. volume of admiring letters.
